1.The embouchure hole can be cleaned with a cue tip dipped in alcohol. It is surprising how the hole can become encrusted with residue from saliva. This can actually change the shape of the blowing surface - so clean it lightly about once a week. 2.Try not to rub the outside edge of the embouchure hole. The embouchure hole may be made of silver, which is a very soft metal. A good embouchure hole can be ruined if it is dulled by constant rubbing. 3. Try to brush your teeth well before playing in order to keep foods and sugars out of the flute. These residues can cause sticky pads. 4. If you get thirsty while you play, do not drink any kind of soda. The acids and sugars contained in these can actually wear at the surface of your flute. Instead, let water be your drink. 5. Always swab the inside of your flute after you are finished playing. 6. Your flute is for you to play and no one else should play it. This rule will keep your flute from getting damaged in the hands of an inexperienced player. If someone else by chance has played it, wipe off the embouchure plate with an alcohol swab. This will keep you from getting sick and it won’t hurt the flute. |
