What to Do With the Flute While Taking a Break

Everyone must take breaks from practicing or from rehearsals. It is important to learn how to handle the flute during breaks.

The safest place for your flute is to always put it back in its case. However, there will be times when this is inconvenient. Here are a few basic rules for keeping your flute safe.

• Never place it on the ledge of your music stand.

• Never place it on the seat of your chair.

• Never place it on a surface with the key side facing down. Always place the flute down with the keys face up.

• Never place the flute on the bed or in a soft chair where others may sit on it!

• DO lay it on a soft cloth on a flat surface away from where others can damage it.

• Always treat the flute as the very special and expensive instrument it is.
